Project Goal: Evaluate the condition of the main sewer line from the front cleanout to the street.

Camera Sewer Inspection Walkthrough

We accessed the sewer line through the two-way cleanout located in the front yard. From there, we pushed the camera out to the street, where we entered clay pipe. We then slowly pulled the camera backwards toward the house through ABS plastic pipe.

Another two-way cleanout is located to the right side of the front door steps — very convenient access for future maintenance.

During the inspection, we encountered standing water in the line. The water level was only about one inch deep, but it was enough to submerge the camera at times. We performed a second pass to better understand the situation and rule out major issues.

(Note: We apologize for the landscaper noise in the background during this inspection.)

What We Found

  • Pipe Materials: Clay pipe in the street section transitioning to ABS plastic under/near the house
  • Access Points: Two functional two-way cleanouts (front yard + near front steps)
  • Condition: Standing water (≈1 inch) present in the ABS section
  • Other Observations: No major cracks, root intrusions, or complete blockages observed

The standing water suggests a possible low spot or slight belly in the pipe, which can collect water, sediment, and debris over time. This is a common issue in older homes and can eventually lead to slow draining or backups if not monitored.

Recommendations

We recommend:

  1. Hydro jetting / line cleaning to remove any sediment sitting in the low area.
  2. A follow-up camera inspection after cleaning to confirm the exact cause and severity of the low spot.
  3. Regular maintenance every 2–3 years due to the mixed pipe materials.

Why Sewer Inspections Matter in Davis

Davis properties often have older clay and ABS lines that can develop low spots, root intrusion, or sediment buildup. Catching these issues early with a professional camera inspection can save thousands in future repair costs.
